We’ve all been there: the alarm blares, and all you can think is, “Not today.” Crawling out from under those cozy blankets to work out? No thanks! 🥱 But trust me, with a few tricks up your sleeve, you can kick those morning excuses to the curb. Here are some super simple tips that’ve worked for me.
Plan Your Morning Workout the Night Before
One of the best habit changes I’ve made is planning my workouts the night before. Instead of scrolling through social media at night, I take a few moments to choose which workout I want to do the next morning and set my alarm.
I’m a big fan of Apple Fitness. They have 10, 20, and 30-minute options of a variety of my favorite workouts:
Dance Fitness 👏🏼
HIIT
Kickboxing
Pilates
Yoga
Some mornings, I "stack" two 10-minute sessions to keep it interesting, like 10 minutes of HIIT followed by 10 minutes of Pilates. Don't forget YouTube as a free resource to find and endless number of workouts to choose from.
Having a plan increases your chance of sticking to a routine because it removes the uncertainty that often leads to skipping a workout.
Sleep in Your Workout Clothes
It might sound silly, but sleeping in your workout clothes help you commit to your workout. This simple hack saves me from fumbling around in the dark, waking up my husband, and wondering why all my black pants look the same at 6 a.m.! 🖤
Plus, a perk of working out at home is that you don’t need a fancy outfit. A comfy t-shirt paired with light sweatpants or shorts will do the trick. This makes it easier to roll out of bed and straight into a workout.
Balance Your Workout with Your Day
Picking a workout that matches your day can be a total game-changer. If your schedule’s packed and you’ll be on your feet all day, go for something chill like yoga to balance things out. But if you’re glued to your desk, a Zumba class or quick HIIT session can get your blood pumping and energy up. 🕺 It’s all about finding that sweet spot so your workout leaves you feeling good and ready for whatever’s next.
Create a Motivational Environment
Your workout space matters. Design a corner of your home with a yoga mat, dumbbells, or resistance bands so everything you need is easily accessible. I’ve found that a tidy, dedicated space makes me less likely to skip a session.
Give Yourself enough time
Waking up 20 minutes earlier is not going to give you enough time to get setup, workout, and shower afterwards. Make sure you add in some time to cool down and reflect before the family wakes up! I set my alarm at least 45 minutes earlier.
You Got This
These tips can totally change your mornings. It’s easy to let little things stop us from working out, but a bit of planning and some simple hacks make a big difference. Prep ahead, throw on your gear, match your workout to your day, and set up a space that inspires you. Boom, morning routine nailed!
